The Reef

Luke, his friend Matt and his girlfriend Suzie and Matt's sister and Luke's former girlfriend Kate sail with him and the sailor Warren. However, the vessel hits an underwater rock and capsizes with an opening on her bottom. Luke advises that they should swim in the north direction to reach the Turtle Island, in Queensland, Australia, while they have strength since there is a current moving the boat in the opposite direction of land but Warren prefers to stay on the hull waiting for help since there are sharks in the water. The quartet swims, but they are hunted by a great white shark. Rated 3 out of 10 coz it was oh so boring.

You Again

When a young woman realizes her brother is about to marry the girl who bullied her in high school, she sets out to expose the fiancée's true colors.
Thoroughly enjoyed this film. So funny that everyone meets someone else that either they bullied, or who bullied them. As with most chick flicks, everything is ok in the end. This isn't one for the kids, but teenagers will surely enjoy it. Il rate as 7 out of 10, as i prefer a bit of action :)

Parole officer Jack Mabry (Robert De Niro) has only a few weeks left before retirement and wishes to finish out the cases he's been assigned. One case is Gerald "Stone" Creeson(Edward Norton), a convicted arsonist who is up for parole. Stone arranges for his wife Lucetta (Milla Jovovich) to seduce the officer, but motives and intentions steadily blur amidst the passions and buried secrets of the corrupted players in this deadly game of deception.

After con artist Eddie Sullivan (Feuerstein) incurs a large debt with a local criminal ringleader, he creates a get-rich-quick scheme and enlists a sweet gentle giant named Walter (Wight) as his unwitting accomplice. Walter's orphanage -- the only home he's ever known -- also needs funds desperately. Upon overhearing Walter's predicament, Eddie convinces the no-nonsense head nun, Sister Francesca (Malick), that Walter can win the money as a fighter and pay off the church's debts. Eddie's plan: travel from town to town with Walter and enter small, unsanctioned fighting competitions for prize money Sister Francesca dispatches Mary (Hardin) as a chaperone for both Walter and the money and gives Eddie a week - and a prayer - to make it happen. During their journey across the south to the annual Pro-Am MMA tournament in New Orleans, Walter discovers what life is like outside the orphanage, while Eddie becomes morally conflicted over whether to take all the loot for himself or keep his promise to Walter, the one person he can actually call a friend.

Due Date

High-strung father-to-be Peter Highman is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay on a road trip in order to make it to his child's birth on time.

Despicable Me

When a criminal mastermind uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, he finds himself profoundly changed by the growing love between them.

Loved this film and so did the kids. Gru and Vector are at heads to be the best villain. Vector is currently winning having just stolen a pyramid. Vector steals a shrinking ray from Gru, who had just stolen it himself, and both of them are in a race to steal the moon(shrink it and bring it back to earth). Gru adopts 3 little girls and uses them to distract Vector during his attempts to get the shrinking ray back.
We then discover that items that are shrunk return to their original size not long after, so then there is more fun trying to return the moon. Excellent film for all ages and a definate 8 out of 10.

The Kid

Kevin Lewis never had a chance. Growing up on a poverty-stricken London council estate, beaten and starved by his parents, bullied at school and abandoned by social services, his life was never his own. Even after he was put into care, he found himself out on the streets caught up in a criminal underworld that knew him as 'The Kid'. Yet Kevin survived to make a better life for himself.
Awesome film, a definate 8 out of 10 if you like disurbing and true stories.

The Experiment

I rented this out of interest. Didn't sound great, but I thought with Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker in it, it may be good. And it was sure worth the rental.
26men are used in a test, where they are all sent to a test prison facility. Some are to become guards, and the rest are inmates. The test is to see how they all deal with their situation. It is actually very interesting to see how the men psychologically evolve, and how they think under such duress. OK its not brilliant, but well worth the rental. 6 out of 10.

The Social Network

Had I realised that this film was about the creation of facebook, I probably wouldn't have bothered. But by the time I realised I was actually hooked. I have to admit this really is a one off watch, I doubt I will buy this on DVD, and I know my kids will not be interested in this film. But I really do suggest watching this film at least once.
I can't really say too much about the plot(as many people will know the story already), but I do recommend this film. 7 out of 10, as it kept me hooked.

The American

George Clooney is great, and this film is upto his usual excellence. Proper synopsis and review will follow when i get enough time :)

Eat Pray Love

I love Julia Roberts but I really did not like this film. So sorry no review as I actually walked out and went for a McDonalds :p.

Lottery Ticket

Awesome film. Not BUY quality but a really good way to spend 90 or so minutes.
Kevin Carson(Bow Wow) buy a lottery ticket using the numbers in his fortune cookie and wins bigtime. Unfortunately his mum spreads the word and suddenly everyone is his friend. But as expected someone wants to steal his ticket and take the money. Meanwhile theres a weirdo friend(Icecube) who hides kinda under the street and give Kevin advice. All in all a great romp and fun to watch.

Cats And Dogs - The Revenge Of Kitty Galore

Yay what fun. Ok not an adult film, but a really great way to waste some time. Kids loved it. I personally think Marmaduke was better but that me.
Kitty Galore(a cat, incase Kitty didn't give it away), is trying to takeover the world, by sending all the dogs on the planet mad. So the cats and dogs have to join forces to stop her. There is a new recruit Butch, who being a failed police dog because he cannot follow orders, has to learn to follow orders, so that the plan to stop Kitty does not fail. This is a very enjoyable flick for the kids, and I certainly did not mind sitting there watching it with them. Definitely a DVD purchase and a well deserved 8 out of 10.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Hmm. I thought someone had swapped the tobacco in my rollup for something else watching this. Very weird film indeed. Maybe I didn't get it, but I really did not understand this film. Only my youngest 2 watched this one and lost interest after about 15 minutes.
Scott Pilgrim(Michael Cera - of Superbad fame?) has to defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her heart. They all have unexplained weird superpowers, as does Scott. So simply Scott fights each ex, beating them and winning his new girlfriends heart.
A very bizarre film and sorry to say, not one I will watch again. Yes its a non-thinking film, coz if you think about it you just end up more confused. A great way to waste 90 odd minutes, but I do suggest a few beers before, and during, and probably after. 3 out of 10 which im sure il get flamed for, but I really do like to understand what is going on, and I sure didn't here.

Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps

Not a shade on the original. Maybe its the lost originality im not sure. Michael Douglas is excellent as shady Gekko again, but im afraid this aint as good.
Gekko is poor after release from prison, and befriends his estranged daughters boyfriend. The boyfriend foolishly trusts him as his mentor has been killed, and Gekko says he can tell him who did it. Now i can't say much more for ruining the film, except do not whatever you do expect this to be as great or as i guess coniving as the first. One good thing is that you really do not need to see the first film to watch this one. I did enjoy this film, but my rating is reduced compared to the first. 7 out of 10 seems fair, but only because of michael douglas. He retained the sly foxlike mentality from the first. Please if you do enjoy this film, do watch the original Wall Street, and you will not be dissapointed.

Do not be put off by the fact this is a for-tv looking film. Admittedly within the first 10 minutes I was willing to turn this film off, but im glad I decided not too. Its a bizarre plot involving an out of control plane, and u'd never have guessed it, ALIENS lol. Poor acting I have to say, but the story is well written, and the twist to the story is utterly brilliant. I honestly never guessed. Although a sadish sort of ending, I think it was definitely the right ending.
The film is definitely worth a rental, but not worth purchasing for me. Il give this 6 out of 10, but had the actors been far better, would easily have been an 8.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Think im a bit old for this one. This really is a kids film, as mine all said "BRILLIANT".
Bad owls kidnap many baby owls to takeover the world, and it is upto 2 owls to let the guardians know what is going on, and so to stop the bad owls. Sorry its vague but I didn't watch properly as it really wasn't for me.
I can't add much, except it was well animated, and had a great storyline. I know my kids will watch it again as soon as possible, so for adults its a 6 out of 10, but for kids its gotta be 10 out of 10.

Wild Target

Well worth buying ex-rental. I generally love British films, and this one is no exception. Bill Nighy is exceptionally British, oh such a gentleman, yet a hitman :)
His target is Emily Blunt(of Wolfman fame), who in a hilarious scene, manages to rip-off an art colector.
The scene where Nighy is waiting to shoot Emily, whilst she is canoodling in the bedroom, is brilliant satire, and was very imaginative.
Nighy decides that he cannot kill Emily, and gradually falls for her. So of course then a contract is put out on the both of them. During the first attempt to kill them both, they pick-up a young lad who actually saves them by accident. I have to say a lot of the humour is stupidity but its great that a lot of it you have to read, and its not just slapstick. The car racing scene was hilarious, considering an old banger of a mini was outrunning a merc. Similar idea to RED here where the good guys are running from the bad. Had Nighy not been so great I would have rated this film lower, because there are much better British films out there, but for this I give a 7 out of 10. I should add that this really is aimed at english audiences, so don't flame it if you don't get it.

Interesting film I have to say. Its a kind of blend of Killers and Did You Hear About The Morgans.
Old Brucey(should I call him old :p) is RED (Retired and considered Extremely Dangerous), ex CIA and arranges to meet a woman he speaks to only on the phone. To cover-up a CIA operation in the past, Bruce, among others, is on a hit-list. Once he realises he is in danger, he knows the killers will try to kill the girl as well. What remains is an enjoyable romp where Bruce and the girl, play cat and mouse, trying to discover who the killers are, but also trying to keep well away from them. A great family film this one, but if your after Die-Hard action, this is not one of those films. A definite 9 out of 10. WAY WAY better than Cop-Out.

The Last Airbender

What was all the hype about. Even my kids thought the film wasn't great. We all sat in great expectation, and left like we had only watched half the film. For me the worst part was that the producers used an american for the airbender role, I instantly lost any belief that I had.
The world needs the last airbender to defeat the fire people, we find out the airbender only knows how to bend air, big battle and film ends. Pfffftttt. Absolute rubbish. And the effects were poor to say the least. Poor poor poor. Obviously there will be more of this rubbish to cheat people out of their hard earned cash so please, its at most 3 out of 10.

Streetdance 3D

Awesome film. And YES its a British film. Watch it if only for the music. A streetdancing team have nowhere to practice, so a ballet school step in, in return for some of their pupils to learn streetdancing. The end result is a mix of streetdance and ballet. Excellent storyline, and for actors I have never seen before(well many of them), they were all brilliant. The music kept me seriously trippin throughout the film. If I don't buy the film I will definately buy the soundtrack, but if you like these types of film, this is a deffo 10 out of 10.

Jonah Hex

Im sorry, but i thought this was a pile of c**p. I have never read the comics that this is based on, and for one of these types of films, it was to me a real let-down.
Madman kills Jonahs family so he gets his revenge basically. An incredibly bizarre film, with an incredibly bizarre weapon at the centre of the plot, that could not even possibly exist at the time. The writer must have been on some illegal substance at the time. Jonah even reminded me of Hellboy :p. 5 out of 10 as at least I watched the whole film, but a really dire movie.

How To Train Your Dragon

Had to get this one for the kids. Loved it myself tho :) Young Hiccup befriends a dragon, and makes the rest of the vikings realise that the dragons are actually harmless, and not vicious killers. And of course he gets his girl along the way. I loved the training sections where the dragons appear so hard to beat, yet Hiccup wins soo easily. A brilliant storyline, and I think perfectly executed very nicely detailed graphical rendering. A must for all family members.

Not bad. I have to admit im not a big fan of these old style (reservoir dogs) types of films, but this was OK. Nice to see Danny Trejo in a starring role. He often plays the bad guy sub-villain, and here he did a great job. Quite a few corny gags that didn't suit, and the bit with the strimmer, was im sorry to say just silly :p Not a waste of time to watch, but I very much doubt I will watch this again. I am very suprised De Niro was in this, Jessica Alba at an all time low as well I guess, and the film suited Segal, although his part was very insignificant. This film maybe to many peoples taste, but I give it 6 out of 10.

Get Him To The Greek

Oh dear. Another comedy that im afraid did not hit my funny bone. Definitely a giggle here and there, but a lot of the humour wasn't for me. I have to say I did enjoy the film, such a shame that almost the entirety of the film is the 2 main characters simply getting drunk and high. Now "HOW HIGH" was a far better and funnier film, along the same lines. Russell Brand was excellent, Jonah Hill simply wasn't able to shine. A mediocre film you may watch once, and il be generous by giving it 6 out of 10.

Resident Evil Afterlife

Yay I thought as I sat down in my seat. Can't wait. OMG I thought after about 15 minutes. Isn't this a Resi Evil film. Where on earth are all the special effects and gruesome creatures. Don't get me wrong, directing is great, effects are ok, and the whole movie was enjoyable, but, but, but. Someone forgot the nasties. A severe lack of any real gory action. And what suspense. The music completely let down the movie as well, losing it any credibility as suspenseful and action packed. Dear oh dear. What annoys me is I have the other on DVD, but there is no way I shall buy this, so collection ruined. Milla was great as usual, and I loved the speeding bullet effects towards the end, but sadly the only decent monster effects were a couple of peeps, and a couple of head-splitting dogs. 6 out of 10 because they kept Milla Jovovich and she was ace, but if there is another, I may completely skip it at the cinema after this poor attempt.

Not sure about this one. Very interesting the first %90 of the film, building up the relationship between Dren and her, um, parents. But blimey did it drag for me. Way way too long. And then the actual alieny action bits only lasted about 15 minutes right at the end. I doubt very much I shall watch this film again. Had I wanted to watch a family type of film I would rate this movie higher. But with an alien in it, I wanted a lot more.
I guess you do need to watch this at least once, but rent, do not buy as you will probably never watch it again. 5 out of 10 only unfortunately.

Shrek Forever After

Wow yes im behind the times. Only just been and taken the kids to see this one at a local little cinema. I have to say the originality of Shrek is still there. Brilliant film for all the family and one I most certainly will purchase on DVD when it arrives.
8 out of 10 from me, but a definite 10 out of 10 from the kids.

Vampires Suck

I so hate the actual Twilight films I though this would be great. Boy was I wrong. Maybe it did not appeal to my sence of humour but I thought it was simply a stupid film. Don't think I laughed once. If you want comedy don't watch this. If on the other hand you like really dumb stupid humour maybe this is for you.
A very low 2 out of 10 from me. I give it 2 because at least the characters were actually quite similar to the real ones.

Iron Man 2

Finally out on DVD. I love these good old action films. I hear theres a 3rd Ironman in production, and I hope thats true. The action is non-stop in this one, and the effects are awesome. Robert Downey Jr is excellent as always, but im sorry to say, I really did not like Scarlett Johansson. The armour that controls electricty was a brilliant idea, and the whip is one serious piece of kit. All in all a seriously good bit of fun, and not to be missed. Definately a 10 out of 10 for me.

Twilight Eclipse

Yawn. These Twilight films bore the hell outta me. But my 2 daughters love them. I honestly cannot see what there is that people like. Don't get me wrong, I love vampire films, but vampires are EVIL. Think this is all a bit too silly for me personally. My rating is 2 out of 10, but my daughters say 10 out of 10. Funnily my 2 boys agree with my opinion. Maybe this is one of those female only films heh.

Toy Story 3

Well only my kids watched this and their personal review is: BRILLIANT.

Robin Hood (2010)

Yay finally out on DVD. I loved Russell Crowe's performance in this film. An absolutely awesome film, you should not miss this. If you watch one film this week, watch this one. Acting is brilliant, directing is brilliant, infact the only thing not brilliant about it, is the fact its not longer :p Great for kids and adults alike, although I should say teens.

Sunday, 29 August 2010

Oh Ashton is such a great actor who can do any role given. This film is awesome, for adults and children alike. A really weird twisted film this one, the plot that is heh. A quick wedding, and an ex-assassin on the run from being assassinated himself, together with his new wife. The film is full of fun and surprises, and is a great roller-coaster of a ride. Great for all the family, this film is a must-watch and because of that I give this a massive 10 out of 10.

Piranha 3D

Can it be, a remake better than the original. Well its true. These new piranha are dead vicious lol, And not only that the women are well fitter too. Kelly Brook, ooooooooooohhhh, nice figure. OK ok, its not original, but it bloody well done, and great watching. I can't wait for the next one, after all, with the ending on this one, there has to be a next one. I was impressed by the direction of Alexandre Aja, whom I remember from that late great film Mirrors. Can't give much of the plot away, but people get eaten, boats breakdown surrounded by piranha, and people get stranded. Completely typical of this type of film. Very well put together and wonderful to watch. For me an 8 out of 10. P.S Not one for the kids :D

The Other Guys

Darn was I disappointed when Dwayne Johnson was only temporarily in the film. After tooth fairy I was looking forwards to another silly film with him. BUT its not all bad. I really did enjoy the film. The start was absolutely brilliant, but it went downhill after that, ie once the 2 hardmen cops were killed off comically. Will Ferrell as always was excellent, but Mark Wahlberg really suprised me. I honestly think he played the part excellently, I didn't think he could do the comedy angle, but he pulled it off first-rate. I do have to say I enjoyed Cop-Out more, but this is an enjoyable romp. Keaton is definitely showing his age here, and im sad to say, I did not enjoy his performance at all. Il give this movie 6 out of 10.

Wednesday, 25 August 2010

Furry Vengeance

Excellent family film this one. Brendan Fraser as comical as ever. Yet to watch a Fraser film I didn't like. OK so not the funniest film, and entirely predictable, but the spoofs and goofs were not too far in-between, and the film kept me amused all the way through. My kids stayed all the way through as well, so a thumbs up from them. I would actually recommend buying this film and from me its a 7 out of 10.

Grown Ups

What a really stupid film heh. Really funny stupid. I have to say I really did enjoy watching this film. Adam Sandler was brilliant as always.
Be aware though thats its as heartwarming as it is funny. Its not a real comedy as such. Its actually a good film to watch with the missus/gf. Enjoy it because we did.

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

What a weird film. Can't say much more lol as I actually gave up watching it.

Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang

Loved the first and loved the second. My kids love both of them too. Yeah it probably more a 5-12 year olds cup of tea, but its still a great family movie. I bought this on dvd as its a definite classic that needs adding to the collection. I may never watch it again, but I know it will still bring my children many more hours of entertainment for years to come.

Prince Of Persia The Sands Of Time

Definitely a seriously over-hyped film, but it really is brilliant, least I think so. Plot is great, acting is great, and all in all an excellent film. I do think there were quite a few times where there could have been some more exciting action, but the action never stopped long enough, for me to contemplate giving up on the film. The only let down was the variety and quality of the CGI. Not a biggie, but oh so much more could have been done at the end.
And yes the end was one big let-down for me. Only going to give this an 8 out of 10 because I was seriously disappointed with the ending.

Hot Tub Time Machine

Still a great film. Rented this out on dvd last night and its just as good as when I went to the cinema. Brilliant acting, and brilliant casting. Not side-splittingly funny, but a great laugh with lots of innuendos, and the twist in the film was great. Such a unique film to be honest, as I have never seen a film with such a storyline. My kids didn't understand the humour, 15+ really, but I loved every minute. Definitely a 10 out of 10 from myself. If you don't agree just say so.

Knight And Day

Not a bad film at all. Lil ol Tom Cruise was excellent as Roy Miller, the secret agent, trying to stay alive. Lacking in the action department I felt, and there was little chemistry between Cruise and Diaz. All in all a great romp, but a different leading lady would have made all the difference. Sadly a 6 out of 10, and the kids got bored after about 10 minutes :p

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

I really enjoyed this movie. I do like Nicholas Cage, and he really did the trick in this movie. Jay Baruchel(Shes Out Of Your League) was also excellent. All in all a great family movie, and 1 for all to enjoy. Gotta be at least 8 out of 10 from me. My kids loved it too, so big thumbs up from them.

I only mention this film because I thought it was SOOOO BAD. Hopefully someone will disagree with me.

Sunday, 22 August 2010

The Expendables

What a let down. Was looking forwards to Arnie being in a film again, and all he had was a walk on part. BAH. Film itself was not bad, but seriously lacking in action, what wiv all them hard guys in it. Why WWF star Steve Austin was in it god only knows, to make the names I guess. And Jet LI, I feel sorry for the guy, he was made to look useless tbh. He is amazing normally, and in this film there were too many stars and so little they were allowed to do. Statham and Stalone were the stars, as only they had more than about 10mins of acting in the film pffft. All in all not a bad film, but an ACTION film, nope, a standard action movie with actually less action than even The Last Action Hero lol. Well over-hyped. I give it 5 out of 10, and no I won't be buying this one on dvd.

Wednesday, 18 August 2010

Kids loved this film. Cough cough yes im a big kid :)  Ok ok its not original or great, but its an excellent family film. Due out on bluray soon, so am gonna definitely buy it, if not at least to get some peace from the kids. Personally I think its gotta be a 7 out of 10, but the kids say 11 hehe................Make up your own mind and see if you agree with your kids.

Wheres Arnie when you need him...........How the hell could someone cast Adrien Brody in the lead part. My god hes just so not big n muscley.   May as well have put good ole Jaden Smith in there. An action film full of wimps really. Film wasn't original, but was well put together and the effects were adequate. Obviously the film company spent most of the money on B grade actors. Don't get me wrong tho, Brody is a good actor in my book, just this film really didn't suit him well.
Worth a watch again, id say rental, not worth buying tbh. But its my own opinion of course. If you would buy this when it comes out on dvd then feel free to leave a comment.

The Karate Kid (2010)

Wow. I actually walked out watching this one. I was sooooooo bored. The film takes near 45 mins to even start. Who cares the kid(wow isn't Will Smiths son skinny lol), doesn't want to move to China. Damn film took so long before the training started, I forgot it was a kung-fu film. And the action. Did I blink? I missed it. Oh wait, maybe I had already walked out. Can't say much more, getting tired even thinking about this film ZzZzZzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The A-Team

What a pile of rubbish. Sorry folks but there is absolutely no comparison between this and the original. Quinton Jackson AKA BA Barakus is simply not in the same league a Mr T. Liam Neeson in my mind simply does not suit a comedic role, and seeing as he didn't appear to smile at all, you can see why. The film itself was not too bad, just very poor and misplaced casting. Worth a watch if you didn't watch the original series as it is quite fun. Steer well clear if you loved the original.
